Back to the drawing board :-/

So I decided to rebuild my app. It will be better, it’s that simple.

I have been re-writing it using Cocos2D. It will certainly run without any framerate issues, it’s a fairly simple app, but not something UIKIT was built for.

At this point in time, I don’t have much of an idea when I’ll finish it, just sometime in 2012 as it was more or less there anyway.

chinesekungfu.co.uk – soft launch

Last night we soft launched the new version of chinesekungfu.co.uk.

We simply wanted to give it a lick of new paint, the site was designed by Tracey Duong whenever I didn’t butt in.

It’s pretty straight forward HTML along with a bit of PHP to make things a bit easier, I’m going to either plug my framework into Drupal or WordPress, I’m learning towards WordPress as I think it will be easier for Sifu Leo Au Yeung to manage :-)

We’ve still got to tweak bits here and there, add / replace photos, SEO, etc, but it’s had a good response so far!

My first personal app – Almost complete

I’ve been working on my own app from scratch since August 2010

A few of my friends have given it a test drive with some positive results, hope they just wasn’t being nice for friendship sake!

For the last few months I’ve been doing a lot of testing as well as making plans to wrap it all up. One of the biggest challenges I’ve had is keeping the framerate at a reasonable rate, and this is on a iPhone4! It’s a shame I don’t have my old iPhone 3GS any more as that would have served as a good test device, but at the time getting the cash for it was more valuable :-p I’ve had to compromise some of the games elements along the way to keep it fairly smooth but the end result is still playable! Anything I do of this nature again has to be done with OpenGL ES, no doubt.

Once I optimise the performance a little more, finish the art and animation and get some music licensed, I’ll release it for sure! Hopefully no later than iOS5 / new iPhone releases.

I’ll have two versions up in the App Store, a freebie version and a paid one with features that can be unlocked.

Esprit Group launch new website

Latest website template I’ve built at Design Motive is the new Esprit Group website.

First time using both Sitefinity CMS and Google Webfonts in a production website! As always the designers throw a new challenge, you may or may not notice, it’s the nice subtle finishes that really make a difference to the look and feel of the site, in this case the way the background works.

First iPhone app imminent!

Babmap for the iPhone

Here’s hoping it gets approved on the Apple App Store on the first attempt!

Now to finish off the other, but first I’ll try and salvage what’s left of this weekend.

Plans for 2011

2010 has been fab, nuff said, on to the next one!

I’ve been working on 2 different iPhone apps in the second half of 2010, and I reckon I’ll get both done in a matter of months.  Mobile development has definitely grabbed my attention, doubt I’ll be stopping there.

I’ve also been planning the rebuild of chinesekungfu.co.uk with Tracey Duong, I expect some momentum once an app or 2 have been completed.

I think that’s all for now, all 3 pieces involve a lot, not just coding.  I’ve recently revisited my animation roots too, Richard Williams Animators Survival Kit has been a God send and I’ll be doing some filming and post-production too

New Design Motive website

We just launched our new website this week, once again it’s been powered by DotNetNuke and has made managing the site FAR easier compared to the last version.

Taken from the ‘About this website’

We’ve decided to take a new, fresh approach to our website! with a strong emphasis on simple up-to-date news, easy access, concise information and tagging to compile case studies. We hope you find it interesting.

I should hopefully find some time to use our site as a playground for further development too, I’ll throw in some custom modules when time permits. My aim is to make managing the content as painless / technie free as possible, I’m up for the challenge!
